Career Pathways-Aerospace

In cooperation with the Lake Pend Oreille School District and Sandpoint High School, NIHSAP sponsors an academic class at the high school. Academic studies include the topics required on the FAA Knowledge Exam for Private Pilots, as well as helping students explore the vast career fields encompassed by the aviation and aerospace industries. Classroom instruction by an FAA Certified Flight Instructor covering aircraft systems, fundamentals of flight, navigation, regulations and related topics is enhanced by guest speakers and field trips.

Students meet and learn from experts working in the aviation and aerospace fields, including pilots, engineers, aircraft maintenance techs, Air Traffic Control, military, flight safety, college aviation programs and more.

Field trips are an integral part of the career pathways class, frequently including visits to historical aviation museum, Pemberton & Sons Hangar, Empire Airline, Daher Aircraft (Kodiak factory), Life Flight, Tamarack Aerospace, Granite Aviation.

Exposure to careers and establishing relationships among students, the aviation community, industry leaders and potential employers makes this class rewarding, yet a lot of fun. And, there is almost no homework.

Please see your counselor to register for the class at Sandpoint High School.
