North Idaho High School Aerospace Program

Engaging Community & Support

Our mission is to introduce students to careers in the broader aerospace and aviation industries through academic classes, hands-on plane building, flight training, unmanned aerial systems (drones) and strong industry partnerships.  Our program is open to students from traditional public schools, alternative schools and home schools from 6th through 12th grades.  Every student is a success story.

Launching Careers

We are Launching Careers.  Our graduates  have moved into post-secondary programs for professional pilots, aircraft maintenance (A&P), airline management and aircraft manufacturing.  Three recent graduates are engineering students at the university level with goals of aerospace engineering. Every one of them completing the college or trade school program has found a well-paying meaningful job.  There is an unprecedented shortage of pilots, mechanics and engineers, as well as FAA Air Traffic Controllers.  The careers are there waiting.  We can help get you started.

Aviation Workshop

ACES Workshop is all about hands-on learning.  ACES students build planes!  They completed and flew a two passenger Zenith Zodiac CH610XL airplane in August 2017. Learning skills many schools no longer teach, the ACES students worked on a restoration of a 1945 Taylorcraft BC12-D, which was sold. In September 2018, the ACES team of students repaired a severely hail-damaged Taylorcraft TG-6 and it flew. The plane had been a glider trainer in WWII and has new life thanks to the dedication and teamwork for these middle and high school students. They meet every Saturday at their Hangar at Sandpoint, Idaho Airport.

Career Guidance & Preparation

North Idaho High School Aerospace Program (NIHSAP) students learn about aerospace career options, interact with accomplished industry professionals, acquire aviation mechanics skills, complete pilot ground school, potentially pursue their pilot’s license, plus seek industry-related summer internship and job opportunities. These experiences put the student on the “fast track” to a rewarding career in the aerospace industry. Strong community and industry relationships are key to the programs’ success. We measure success one student at a time.
