Led by career pilot and NIHSAP Co-Founder Ken Larson and Sandpoint High School’s (SHS) Career Pathways instructor Nayla Morton, NIHSAP provides instruction for two aerospace education classes at SHS: Career Pathways in Aerospace – A Survey of Aerospace and Aviation Careers and Pilot Ground School.
Career Pathways in Aerospace – A Survey of Aerospace and Aviation Careers students are treated to a broad spectrum of engaging industry-related guest speakers and field trips, such as visits to North Idaho College’s Aerospace Center for Excellence, Empire Aerospace, Quest Aircraft, Tamarack Aerospace Group and others.
Pilot Ground School covers training in the aeronautical knowledge areas required for the FAA Sport or Private Pilot examination; topics covered include aerodynamics, airplane systems, weather, FAA regulations, navigation principles, spin awareness, incident reporting requirements and more.
Additional course offerings are planned. A near-term goal is to offer an Introduction to Aircraft Maintenance Technology course and an Aviation Mechanics Summer Camp led by FAA certified mechanics.
